Description
Use this Galilean Moon Io Globe™ to explore the towering active volcanoes of Io, the most dynamic body in our solar system. The color imagery from the Galileo satellite was combined with the imagery from Voyager 1 and 2 to create the spectacular color image mosaic in amazing detail. Sulfuric eruptions and ejecta provide a telltale history of tidal uplifting of more than 100 meters as Io is contorted between the gravitational pull between the mighty giant Jupiter and Ganymede, the largest moon in the solar system. Includes the latest labeling of physiographic features and latitude/longitude grid.
FYI: Jupiter’s moons are referred to as the Galilean moons, rather than Jovian, in honor of Galileo writing of his discovery.
