The color imagery from the Galileo satellite was combined with the imagery from Voyager 1 and 2 to create the spectacular color image mosaic in amazing detail. Sulfuric eruptions and ejecta provide a telltale history of tidal uplifting of more than 100 meters as Io is contorted between the gravitational pull between the mighty giant Jupiter and Ganymede, the largest moon in the solar system.
